At Amplify, we create a space where people are made to feel more capable rather than broken - a place where individuals are guided back towards meaningful activities rather than told what they must avoid.
Having pain can stop us in our tracks. It can make us want to do everything we can to reduce the pain before thinking of taking another step forward. We aim to show people that they can still take small steps towards their meaningful goals despite having some pain if it's present.
We believe in the incredibly adaptive properties of the human body - that it can become more capable, robust and resilient with the right approach. We wish to understand a persons story in order to provide a plan that takes them from where they were now to where they'd like to be.
We believe in highlighting peoples strengths over your faults and offering honest solutions to the problems people face - to move again with more confidence, ease and far less worry.
When dosed correctly, strength training is by far the safest and most effective way to treat pain and injury. Moving more confidently in a stronger body has a huge effect on reducing pain. Strengthening also preserves and prolongs the longevity of our joints as we age- keeping us moving better for longer.
Many people think that lifting weights is only for strong people or for people who only want to grow bigger muscles- but it’s far more than that.
Strength training is a way to expose our bodies to different loads and stresses in order for us to adapt and get better at tolerating the forces of life that come our way.
So when it’s time to carry the groceries up a two flights of stairs or drag the washing machine away from the wall to find our wedding ring that just rolled underneath it- we know our body is strong and capable of tolerating the many life moments that gets thrown its way.
Strength training is for everyone! No matter what age or injury- there is a starting point for all bodies. The exercises are simple to learn- following basic human movement patterns. The only difference is that each person will start at different weights according to their current abilities.
The most unique thing about starting a journey towards strength is that strength doesn't discriminate. It doesn't matter what your age is, your gender, what injuries you’ve had, what pains you’re working through, or what your current level of experience with exercise is- there’s always a unique starting point for everybody.
One person might start with a barbell while the other starts with a broomstick.
One person might do a full squat while the other squats to a chair.
One person might lift a dumbbell over their head while the other person lifts a can of tomatoes instead.
You see, it doesn't matter what your current situation is, there's a unique starting point for everybody. And once we’ve established your unique starting point, we begin doing what we do to everyone who wants to build their strength- we gradually increase the weights slowly over time allowing the body time to adapt as it gets stronger.
